Welcome to The Great Escape!

At the Red Pyramid. Dahshur, Egypt.

My faithful friend watches the east bank of the Nile grow closer. Sudan.
June 2011. I am back home in Thailand now. These days I spend my time between Thailand and Vietnam. Vietnam is one of the most fascinating places I have ever visited. The people there are slowly crawling out from under a once oppressive communist regime. The folks in VN will do just fine in my opinion. They are an interesting people, well educated and curious about the outside world. Just stay off the touristy back-packer trail and the real Vietnam is there waiting for you. Stunningly beautiful- though sometimes uncomfortable. It can be oh-so-hot and incredibly cold and nasty come winter! But the people of VN are always warm and welcoming and ready to laugh. I love the people of Vietnam. Soon I will be heading back for a long, sweaty ride in the very interesting highlands. Pics of my trip will be posted on my facebook page: www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=661274218 David Petersen.

Northern Tanzanians watch "the show." Shinyanga, Tanzania.

Up close and personal: meeting a silverback on his terms- no cages here! Parc des Volcans, Rwanda.
